This vessel plays an important role in Chinese tea ceremony. Usually the dry tea is scooped from the tea storage canister and placed onto the vessel so that the appropriated amount can be accurately judged. The additional benefit of using this accessory is that the dry tea can be carefully examined and passed along the guests before infusion. To pour dry tea into the teapot, tilt the narrower end and the dry tea will slide into the teapot. Or a tea spatula may be used to assist the process.
